Playabl is the platform for user-generated games. Creators make games by chatting with AI, publish them, and players discover them in a feed.

We're a small team backed by Y Combinator, with millions of plays across tens of thousands of user-generated games, all organic. We're remote-first and looking for builders who care about craft, speed, and great mobile UX.

About the Role

We're looking for a product-minded Mobile Engineer to help shape Playabl's React Native app. You'll work on core surfaces — discovery, creation, play, sharing, and onboarding — and care deeply about performance, polish, and shipping. You move fast, debug independently, and are comfortable using modern AI tools as part of your daily workflow. Android native experience is a strong plus, especially around startup time, scrolling, memory, and low-end device optimization.

Responsibilities

  • Build and ship React Native features end-to-end across our consumer app
  • Improve performance, stability, responsiveness, and release quality
  • Collaborate with design, backend, and product to turn ideas into shipped experiences
  • Integrate web-based interactive content into the mobile experience where needed
  • Use analytics, crash reports, and user feedback to prioritize fixes
  • Help evolve our mobile architecture as we scale

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of professional software engineering, ideally on consumer mobile products
  • Strong hands-on React Native and TypeScript / JavaScript experience
  • Experience shipping production apps on iOS and/or Android
  • Solid grasp of navigation, state management, API integration, and app store releases
  • Strong ownership and product sense; comfortable in ambiguity

Preferred

  • Android native (Kotlin / Java) and performance tuning experience
  • Hybrid architectures: native modules, WebView, or bridges
  • Consumer social, UGC, gaming, or feed-based products
  • Familiarity with Firebase, Sentry, Amplitude, or similar tooling
